                                                Research Paper Introduction I am writing a research paper on the cultural history of Martinique and the influence that African slaves had and the islands unique geography have on its culture and history. Martinique is an overseas Territorial collectivity of France. It has the same political status as homeland regions in France. After the Napoleonic wars, the island was given back to the French in 1845. During this period, the use of slaves on the island continued which led to an increased number of slaves in Martinique. This resulted in multiple slave uprisings with the most famous being the ones in 1816 and 1848. Reading the translation of Caribe Gris was a bit of a challenge. It wasn’t that it was especially hard to read, it was that it was hard to understand the main idea .  Originally, I had thought that the main idea was even though Columbus was factually and morally incorrect while recounting the events of his voyage in his journal, it still became an influential piece of history that can be examined and learn from today. While I still believe this idea to be central to the texts, I believe the main idea now to be that Columbus’s false account of his voyages led to the fruition of new prejudices in society regarding native culture.  The reason why I changed my views on the main idea is that I thought to myself that the journal probably was the first account of contact with indigenous people from these islands for many people and many incorrect assumptions about the people and their culture were based on this account.  The ideas about the natives that Columbus propagates in hi...

I feel as if my blog meets most of the rubric criteria but I do believe that I could have optimized the format of my blog to be read more easily and grab attention effectively.  Making my blog to be more aesthetically pleasing is something I feel that I have slacked on due to my unfamiliarity with blogger.  One of the aspects of blog creation that causes me to stress is the idea that my content can be perfectly up to speed but if the delivery of the content isn’t optimized properly, it could cause me to lose points. I believe I’m putting my best efforts into these blog creations although I do have proclivities toward procrastination which can be incredibly frustrating.  I try to review my blog posts to make sure I didn’t make any big mistakes in relation to either the grammar of the content or the formation of the blog post.
